Deer Feeding Regulation |
Posted on Aug 25th, 2015 Comments (0)
DO NOT FEED THE DEER
A number of homeowners are concerned about the overpopulation of deer within The Woods. One of the concerns was that some homeowners are feeding the deer and did not know that it is illegal to bait or feed deer in Berkeley County. This law is in place in an attempt to control Chronic Wasting Disease within the West Virginia deer populations.
Several homeowners at the meeting were very concerned because they or their neighbors are suffering with Lyme disease. Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks (deer ticks). This link provides information about Lyme Disease http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/
Do not feed the deer on your property within The Woods. Not only is it illegal but it is also a health issue.
